Ripple Prime, the institutional brokerage division of Ripple, has launched support for real-world asset (RWA) perpetual swaps, giving its clients 24/7 trading access to over 100 traditional financial markets. Announced on Thursday, October 15, 2026, the new derivatives products reference perpetual futures listed by Trade.xyz on the high-performance decentralized venue, Hyperliquid, with major trading firm Virtu among the first clients to use the service.
This move represents a significant step in merging the architecture of digital assets with traditional finance. It allows institutional traders to gain exposure to equities, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), precious metals, energy, and foreign exchange markets around the clock, breaking free from the constraints of conventional market hours. Ripple Prime acts as the principal for the trades, providing a simplified, single-counterparty experience for its clients.
Ripple Prime launches a bridge
The new offering works by having Ripple Prime offer swaps that are linked to the value of perpetual futures contracts listed on Hyperliquid by the deployer Trade.xyz. This structure allows institutions to interact with a familiar, regulated prime broker while gaining exposure to innovative products built on decentralized finance (DeFi) infrastructure. The entire process is designed for capital efficiency and simplified risk management.
A key feature is the ability for clients to use a single collateral pool for their entire portfolio. This means they can manage margin across a diverse range of assets, including digital assets, FX, derivatives, and now, RWA swaps.
“RWA swaps are where traditional and digital markets meet,” said Michael Higgins, International CEO of Ripple Prime. He noted that institutions want exposure to traditional assets but with the efficiency and constant access that digital infrastructure provides.
The mechanics of the new offering
Clients trade directly with Ripple Prime, which abstracts away the complexity of interacting with the underlying DeFi protocols. This centralized counterparty relationship is critical for many institutions that are unable or unwilling to connect directly to decentralized exchanges. Furthermore, clients can use Ripple’s own dollar-pegged stablecoin, RLUSD, as collateral, depending on their jurisdiction.
The cross-margining capability is a standout benefit. By allowing a single pool of capital to cover positions across diverse asset classes, including digital assets and traditional energy swaps, Ripple Prime enables clients to net their risks. This significantly reduces the total collateral institutions need to post, thereby freeing up capital for other strategies.
Clients gain a consolidated view of margin requirements and risk across their entire portfolio.
Institutional appetite and key player adoption
The immediate adoption by a firm like Virtu underscores the demand for such products. Virtu, a global market maker and trading firm, sees a clear advantage in the new structure. Scotte Moegling, head of business development for digital assets at Virtu, highlighted the efficiency gains.
“Virtu is ramping up across emerging liquidity pools, and Ripple Prime’s 24/7 cross-margining across asset classes helps us expand our presence more efficiently as markets move toward round-the-clock access,” Moegling stated.
This sentiment reflects a broader trend in finance. As global markets become more interconnected, the 9-to-5, weekday-only trading window of traditional exchanges is increasingly seen as a limitation. Institutions want to react to news and manage positions whenever events occur, not just during New York or London business hours. Crypto’s “always-on” nature provides the template, and Ripple applies this to traditional assets.
This growing roster of top-tier clients signals Ripple’s increasing traction as a premier prime broker. Brevan Howard, for instance, tapped Ripple Prime for multi-asset services on October 6, highlighting this institutional confidence.
Hyperliquid provides the high-speed engine
At the core of this new product is Hyperliquid, a specialized Layer 1 blockchain built for high-performance derivatives trading. It’s not a general-purpose chain; its design is optimized for the speed, throughput, and low latency required by perpetual futures markets. The platform has seen explosive growth, cementing its position as a leading decentralized derivatives venue.
The numbers speak for themselves. In the last 30 days alone, Hyperliquid has processed over $209.533 billion in perpetual volume, with 24-hour volume recently topping $10.198 billion. As of October 13, 2026, the platform had nearly $11.75 billion in open positions across 234 different markets.
Jeff Yan, Hyperliquid’s CEO, has stated an ambitious goal for the platform to “house all of finance,” indicating a vision that extends far beyond crypto-native assets.
The platform’s architecture allows deployers like Trade.xyz to list new markets by staking the native HYPE token, creating a competitive and dynamic environment for product creation. Each market is tied to an external price feed via an oracle, with safeguards in place to prevent price dislocations.
This robust, high-capacity infrastructure is what makes it possible for Ripple Prime to confidently build institutional-grade products on top of it.
Ripple’s strategic expansion in institutional finance
This launch is not an isolated event. It’s the latest move in Ripple’s deliberate strategy to build a comprehensive institutional finance platform. The foundation was laid with Ripple’s acquisition of non-bank prime broker Hidden Road last year, which formed the Ripple Prime division. Since then, the pace of integration and product launches has been rapid.
In February 2026, Ripple Prime added support for Hyperliquid, allowing clients to cross-margin their DeFi derivatives exposure. This was followed by an integration with EDX Markets in May for spot liquidity and perpetual futures. By August, Ripple launched its Delta One business, offering total return swaps on US-listed equities, indices, and digital assets.
These steps show a methodical build-out of capabilities, leveraging the platform’s core strengths.
The firm’s strategic moves are attracting significant capital. Affiliates of Brevan Howard participated in Ripple’s $500 million investment round in 2025, demonstrating confidence from major financial players. The market for RWA perpetuals is a key growth area, with open interest across major platforms reportedly rising from near zero to $9 billion over the past year.
By entering this space, Ripple is positioning itself at the forefront of the tokenization trend. The RWA swaps are currently offered through Ripple Prime’s CIV BVI license, with plans to expand availability to more regions over time, pending regulatory approvals. This measured approach allows Ripple to innovate while navigating the complex global regulatory landscape.
