XRP-based Exchange Traded Products (ETPs) attracted fresh capital in the week ending May 10, 2024. This was a notable counter-trend to the substantial $633 million in outflows recorded by Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) during the same period.

This unexpected divergence, reported on May 13, 2024, by Cryptonews.net, highlights a unique investor confidence in XRP amidst a challenging broader cryptocurrency market. The inflows into XRP ETPs reached $1.1 million, according to data compiled by CoinShares.

XRP Gains Capital While Other Cryptos Struggle

This occurred as the wider crypto ETP market experienced overall outflows of $621 million, primarily driven by the significant withdrawals from its two largest digital assets. The trend suggests a shift in investor focus or perhaps a belief that XRP offers a more stable outlook in the current financial climate.

The latest data from CoinShares reveals a stark contrast in investor sentiment across the digital asset ETP landscape. While XRP ETPs saw positive inflows, Bitcoin ETPs recorded a massive $606 million in outflows during the week ending May 10, 2024.

Ethereum ETPs also faced headwinds, shedding $24 million over the same period. These figures underscore a challenging environment for the leading cryptocurrencies.

This pronounced selling pressure on Bitcoin and Ethereum funds contributed significantly to the total crypto ETP outflows. These withdrawals reached $621 million for the week.

The market experienced its second consecutive week of substantial withdrawals from BTC and ETH products, signaling a cautious institutional stance. This pattern indicates investors are re-evaluating their positions in the two dominant digital assets.

Macroeconomic pressures dampen sentiment

Analysts attribute these broad market outflows, excluding XRP, to a more hawkish-than-expected stance from the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC). This position has led to a delay in anticipated interest rate cuts, impacting overall investor sentiment across various asset classes, including cryptocurrencies.

Higher interest rates typically make riskier assets less attractive. The macroeconomic climate is clearly influencing capital allocation within the digital asset sector.

This shift resulted in the total assets under management (AUM) for crypto ETPs falling to $94.7 billion. Additionally, trading volumes for crypto ETPs saw a considerable decrease, dropping from $17 billion to $8 billion in the week ending May 10, 2024.

Regulatory clarity positions XRP for renewed interest

XRP’s ability to attract capital, even a modest $1.1 million, while its larger peers faced significant withdrawals, is a testament to its evolving market perception. A critical factor behind this unique resilience is the enhanced regulatory clarity surrounding XRP.

This is particularly true following the resolution of the protracted legal battle between Ripple Labs, Inc. (Ripple) and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The lawsuit, which began in December 2020, significantly impacted XRP’s market performance for years.

Judge Analisa Torres’s ruling on July 13, 2023, declared that XRP itself is not a security in programmatic sales to retail investors. However, institutional sales were deemed unregistered offerings.

The subsequent joint announcement in August 2025 by Ripple and the SEC to drop their respective appeals further solidified this position. This landmark legal outcome provided crucial certainty for institutional investors who had previously shied away from XRP due to its uncertain legal status.

Official commodity classification boosts confidence

The regulatory landscape for XRP received its most definitive boost on March 17, 2026. On this date, the SEC and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) jointly classified XRP as a digital commodity.

This decision placed XRP on the same legal footing as Bitcoin and Ethereum, effectively removing a major barrier for broader institutional investment. This classification has been a long-awaited development for XRP proponents.

This newfound clarity allows financial products like XRP ETPs to operate with greater confidence in regulated markets. It signifies that fears of XRP being classified solely as an unregistered security have largely subsided.

This regulatory shift undoubtedly contributes to the current, albeit small, influx of capital into XRP-linked investment vehicles. It reflects a growing comfort level among investors.

The evolving spot ETF landscape and XRP’s integration

The broader crypto market has seen significant advancements with the approval of spot ETFs for major cryptocurrencies. On January 10, 2024, the SEC approved the first eleven US-listed spot Bitcoin ETFs, marking a watershed moment for institutional access to the digital asset market.

This was followed by the approval of eight Ethereum ETFs on May 23, 2024, with trading commencing in July 2024. This further broadened the investment avenues.

Following these precedents, multiple issuers began filing applications for spot XRP ETFs in late 2024 and early 2025. Today, as of November 2, 2026, six US spot XRP ETFs are actively trading.

These include those from Canary Capital, Bitwise, Franklin Templeton, Grayscale, 21Shares, and REX-Osprey. These funds collectively hold 1.18 billion XRP, with net assets totaling $1.48 billion, demonstrating growing investor demand for regulated XRP exposure. This integration into the mainstream ETF ecosystem has been critical for XRP’s re-emergence.

Sustained inflows for new XRP products

The success of these recently launched spot XRP ETFs is notable. Since their introduction in November 2025, these products have recorded 35 consecutive trading days without a single outflow. This consistent accumulation of assets suggests a strong underlying demand from investors.

They are eager to gain exposure to XRP through regulated vehicles. This consistent performance stands in sharp contrast to the recent volatility seen in Bitcoin and Ethereum funds.

The ability of these digital asset funds to attract and retain capital points to a distinct investor base. They are likely drawn to XRP’s specific use case in cross-border payments and its now clarified regulatory status.

This trend suggests a strategic reallocation of capital by some investors. They are looking for diversified exposure within the crypto ETP segment, moving away from more saturated or volatile assets.

Altcoins see targeted inflows amidst market corrections

While Bitcoin and Ethereum dominated the outflows, XRP wasn’t the only altcoin to register positive capital flows. Solana (SOL) ETPs saw $4 million in inflows during the same week ending May 10, 2024.

Litecoin (LTC) ETPs attracted $0.3 million, and Polygon (MATIC) ETPs garnered $0.2 million. These targeted inflows indicate a selective approach by investors.

Here, specific altcoins with perceived strong fundamentals or unique value propositions continue to find support. This selective interest suggests that investors are becoming more discerning rather than abandoning the crypto market entirely.

Instead of a wholesale flight from digital assets, capital appears to be rotating into cryptocurrencies that offer a distinct narrative or a more appealing risk-reward profile. This is particularly true for those benefiting from increased regulatory certainty or technological developments. Such targeted investments highlight the growing maturity of the crypto investment landscape, moving beyond blanket investments in top-tier assets.

Future outlook for XRP and wider crypto ETP performance

The recent capital movements provide a fascinating glimpse into the evolving dynamics of the crypto ETP market. For XRP price, continued positive inflows into its ETPs could provide a crucial support mechanism. At the time of the report, XRP traded at $0.50, Bitcoin at $61,000, and Ethereum at $2,900.

These price points reflect the market sentiment preceding the latest capital flow data. The future performance of crypto ETPs, including XRP, will likely remain sensitive to macroeconomic factors. This is particularly true for decisions from the FOMC regarding interest rates.

A more dovish stance from central banks could alleviate some of the pressure currently seen on Bitcoin and Ethereum, potentially leading to a reversal of recent outflows. However, XRP’s unique position, bolstered by regulatory clarity and its utility-focused design, might allow it to maintain its independent trajectory.

The year-to-date (YTD) crypto ETP inflows still stand at a robust $13.3 billion as of May 10, 2024. This figure illustrates that despite recent weeks of outflows, the overall institutional adoption of crypto ETPs remains strong on an annual basis.

The inflows into XRP and other altcoins suggest a diversification strategy is underway. Investors are seeking opportunities beyond the traditional crypto giants. The long-term trend appears to be one of increasing integration into mainstream finance, even amid short-term fluctuations driven by broader market events.
