Crypto data powerhouse Blockworks launched a new server on October 1, 2026, enabling artificial intelligence assistants like ChatGPT, Claude, and Cursor to directly access its comprehensive datasets. This strategic move makes over 40,000 crypto assets, market data, and financial protocols instantly searchable by AI agents, streamlining complex analytical workflows for Blockworks’ clientele.

The integration reflects a growing demand from customers, including major exchanges and investment funds, who are increasingly leveraging AI in their daily operations. Blockworks co-founder Jason Yanowitz emphasized the necessity of standardized and well-sourced data, stating that AI agents need reliable inputs to function effectively without manual verification.

AI agents gain direct access to Blockworks crypto data AI

Blockworks’ newly launched server operates on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard designed to facilitate external data access for AI tools. This protocol allows compatible assistants to query Blockworks’ extensive figures simply by processing ordinary language questions from users.

Users can connect the server to popular AI platforms like ChatGPT and Claude, or even specialized coding tools such as Cursor. ChatGPT has already officially listed Blockworks’ connector as an approved application, underscoring the platform’s commitment to seamless integration.

The Unified API Powers Data Richness

Behind the new MCP server lies the Unified API, a critical infrastructure upgrade Blockworks unveiled on September 24. This single-key data feed merges Blockworks’ proprietary data with the vast repository acquired from crypto research firm Messari, which Blockworks purchased in June.

The combined dataset offers an unprecedented breadth, covering more than 300 centralized and decentralized exchanges. It also provides financials for over 400 DeFi protocols, standardized for easy comparison, alongside crucial information such as news, fundraising rounds, and token unlock schedules.

Transition from Messari’s Dedicated Server

Prior to this launch, Messari maintained its own MCP server specifically for its enterprise clients. Jason Yanowitz confirmed that while Messari’s server will eventually be phased out, it will remain operational for a transitional period. This ensures a smooth migration for existing customers to the more comprehensive Blockworks platform.

Yanowitz highlighted the company’s ambition: “We want every number we have one call away for them, with the source attached.” This vision underscores a commitment to making financial data readily available and verifiable for AI-driven applications.

Ensuring Data Accuracy in an AI-Driven Workflow

The promise of AI integration comes with inherent challenges, particularly regarding data integrity. An AI model might retrieve accurate figures but misinterpret or incorrectly report them, leading to potentially flawed conclusions that appear credible due to sourced data.

To counteract this, Blockworks has implemented a rigorous verification process. According to Yanowitz, both human experts and AI agents, including research analysts, data analysts, and data engineers, meticulously check every data point before it reaches an AI model. This multi-layered approach aims to uphold the highest standards of accuracy.

Moreover, every answer generated by the AI assistant comes with raw figures and their original sources. This transparency empowers users to independently verify the model’s output, fostering trust and accountability in AI-generated insights. Such a focus on verifiable data is crucial in the volatile crypto markets, where even small discrepancies can have significant consequences.

Competitive Edge in the Crypto Data Market

Blockworks isn’t the sole player offering an MCP server in the crypto data sphere. Competitors like CoinGecko and CoinMarketCap also provide similar integrations. CoinMarketCap even offers a pay-per-call model for agents without an API key, charging 0.01 USDC per query.

However, Yanowitz asserts that Blockworks distinguishes itself through the sheer breadth and depth of its combined datasets. The merger of Messari’s extensive coverage with Blockworks’ detailed analysis creates a robust offering. “We combined the breadth of Messari data with the depth of Blockworks data,” he explained.

This integration provides over 20 distinct categories of data, all accessible from a single platform. These categories span a wide range, from exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and treasury companies to intricate governance proposals and even podcast transcripts. This comprehensive scope aims to provide a one-stop shop for crypto data needs.

The new server integrates with Blockworks Intel, the company’s on-chain intelligence product. Blockworks Intel allows users to conduct due diligence and monitor the blockchain market with AI-powered screening capabilities. Users can input natural language queries to filter over 40,000 assets based on metrics like 30-day revenue, unlock schedules, or developer activity. This enhances community engagement through informed decision-making.

Blockworks’ Broader AI Strategy and Market Impact

The launch of the MCP server marks another significant step in Blockworks’ aggressive push into artificial intelligence. This initiative follows closely on the heels of Agentic Detection, a monitoring feature introduced two weeks prior. Agentic Detection leverages AI agents to generate rapid risk alerts for compliance teams, significantly reducing response times from minutes to mere seconds.

Blockworks has been actively embedding AI across its operations, including its breaking news model, which uses AI-generated data for faster reporting. This system filters and flags real-time data from pre-approved sources, identifying newsworthy events for editorial review. This broader strategy highlights a company committed to enhancing security tools and efficiency through intelligent automation.

The company, co-founded by Jason Yanowitz and Michael Ippolito, initially focused on institutional blockchain events before evolving into a data and software platform. Blockworks secured a US$12 million Series A funding round in May 2023, showcasing investor confidence in its vision. Its acquisition of Messari in June further cemented its position as a dominant force in crypto data.

The integration of crypto data with AI agents is poised to transform how financial professionals interact with market intelligence. This development could accelerate the creation of new exchange features and sophisticated systematic trading models.

Ultimately, it allows AI-powered workflows to directly call Blockworks’ research and market data, providing a substantial leap forward for informed decision-making in the crypto space. The potential for crypto compliance solutions also grows as data becomes more accessible and verifiable.

As AI agents become more sophisticated, their ability to process and analyze vast quantities of financial data will only increase. Blockworks’ proactive stance in providing a standardized, verifiable data feed positions it at the forefront of this evolving technological landscape, promising a future where AI-driven insights are both powerful and trustworthy for institutional and retail users alike.
