Michael Saylor, the co-founder and Executive Chairman of Strategy, issued a stark warning on May 20, 2024, predicting that individuals holding traditional dollar assets risk being significantly outpaced as Bitcoin continues its ascent. The prominent Bitcoin evangelist has consistently championed the cryptocurrency as a superior store of value and a crucial hedge against economic instability, a message amplified in reporting from TheStreet.

Saylor’s long-standing advocacy for Bitcoin paints a clear picture: he views the digital asset as a financial “lifeboat” for those navigating volatile economic waters. His pronouncements suggest a future where the U.S. dollar’s purchasing power erodes, leaving behind those who cling solely to conventional currencies.

Michael Saylor dollar strategy’s Bitcoin accumulation

Under Michael Saylor’s leadership, Strategy, formerly MicroStrategy, has aggressively transformed from a business intelligence software firm into a corporate titan of Bitcoin holdings. The company pioneered the strategy of adopting Bitcoin as its primary treasury reserve asset in August 2020. This move has made Strategy the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin globally, a position it continues to reinforce.

As of October 25, 2026, Strategy held an impressive 848,517 Bitcoin. This vast holding represents more than 4% of all Bitcoin that will ever exist.

Saylor has openly stated that people “should be more exposed to Bitcoin and less exposed to everything else in the world,” signaling a profound belief in its long-term supremacy over other asset classes, including traditional investments and real estate. This aggressive stance defines Strategy’s Bitcoin strategy.

Saylor’s Market Predictions and Company Maneuvers

Michael Saylor is not shy about making bold predictions concerning Bitcoin’s future trajectory. On October 14, 2026, he forecast that Bitcoin would surge past $100,000 within the next year, kickstarting a new bull market. He also criticized Wall Street, suggesting it is “sleeping on digital capital” by pursuing “risky, overpriced AI plays” instead.

But Strategy’s commitment to Bitcoin isn’t without strategic adjustments. The company executed its largest-ever Bitcoin sale between June 29 and July 5, 2026, offloading a total of 3,588 BTC for approximately $216 million.

These sales, which included 1,363 BTC at an average price of $59,256 and another 2,225 BTC at $60,773, were used to pay quarterly dividends on “Digital Credit” securities and replenish the company’s dollar reserve. The average acquisition price for Strategy’s Bitcoin stood at $74,476, meaning these sales occurred at a discount of roughly 20%.

The company also announced on October 26, 2026, that it had repurchased $205 million of its STRC variable-rate perpetual preferred stock. Strategy expanded its repurchase authorization from $2 billion to $3 billion, with approximately $956.8 million remaining available under that authorization as of October 25, 2026. These financial maneuvers highlight Strategy’s active capital management while maintaining its core Bitcoin focus.

Bitcoin’s Dynamic Performance Amid Macroeconomic Shifts

Bitcoin’s price history reflects its inherent volatility, yet also its resilience. The cryptocurrency plummeted in 2022, trading around $20,000 after the Terra crash and dropping further to $16,000 following the FTX collapse. However, 2024 saw a dramatic resurgence, with Bitcoin surging over 115%. By October 14, 2026, Bitcoin was trading around $81,800, having previously hit an all-time high of around $120,000 in 2025.

Saylor often anchors his bullish outlook in this long-term performance, famously stating on November 9, 2024, that “No one’s ever lost money over the course of four years holding Bitcoin.”

This perspective encourages a patient, long-term approach to the asset, echoing Warren Buffett’s investment philosophy that “If you can’t hold it for ten years, you don’t deserve to have it for ten minutes.” The increased institutional interest, spurred by the approval of spot Bitcoin ETFs in the U.S. in 2024, has also fueled market optimism.

Meanwhile, the U.S. dollar faces its own challenges, primarily from persistent inflation. The Consumer Price Index (CPI-U) showed a 3.74% year-over-year increase from September 2025 to September 2026. While the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) projected inflation to fall to roughly 2% by 2027, concerns persist regarding the long-term effects of government spending and monetary policies.

Saylor sees Bitcoin as the ultimate antidote to these inflationary pressures.

The Global Digital Currency Landscape

The U.S. has taken a distinctive path regarding digital currencies compared to many other nations. In July 2026, the U.S. Congress enacted a five-year prohibition on the creation of a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC), set to expire at the end of 2030.

This decision contrasts sharply with 117 other countries and currency unions actively researching, developing, or deploying their own CBDCs. The U.S. ban explicitly permits “open, permissionless, and confidential dollar-denominated assets” like private stablecoins, suggesting a preference for decentralized solutions.

Saylor frequently emphasizes Bitcoin’s role as a “bank in cyberspace that no government can stop,” positioning it as a bulwark against state control over individual assets. He argued on August 7, 2026, that “Everything you own in the physical world, you own at the pleasure of someone more powerful than you,” further underscoring Bitcoin’s perceived invulnerability and autonomy.

Globally, the journey toward digital currency adoption has seen mixed results. El Salvador, for instance, became the first country to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender in September 2021. However, this experiment faced significant criticism due to Bitcoin’s volatility and the lack of widespread public usage.

By February 2025, Bitcoin was rescinded as legal tender in El Salvador, with reports suggesting it had incurred more costs than benefits.

Looking Ahead: Bitcoin’s Enduring Appeal and Saylor’s Advocacy

Michael Saylor’s unwavering conviction in Bitcoin’s future continues to shape market sentiment and Strategy’s corporate strategy. His long-term forecast of Bitcoin reaching $13 million by 2045 highlights a belief that extends far beyond immediate market cycles. For Saylor, Bitcoin isn’t just an investment; it’s a fundamental shift in how value is stored and transferred.

His advocacy extends to warning about prevalent scams. Since January 2024, Saylor’s security team has been actively combating AI-generated deepfake videos that promote Bitcoin scams, reportedly taking down around 80 such videos daily. This ongoing battle underscores the challenges and risks within the rapidly evolving digital asset space, even as legitimate adoption grows.

The debate over Bitcoin’s role as a hedge against inflation and a store of value will undoubtedly continue. However, Saylor’s consistent message—that those who remain heavily invested in traditional dollar assets risk being left behind—resonates with a growing segment of the investment community. His influence is undeniable, continuously sparking Bitcoin enthusiasm and driving conversations about the future of finance.
