Polkadot (DOT) price surged nearly 11% to $1.27 on October 10, 2026, indicating a significant rebound. 27 on October 10, 2026, marking a significant rebound. This surge follows a broader recovery from key Exponential Moving Average (EMA) support at approximately $1.02 just two days prior.

The bullish momentum stems from two major network developments: a substantial 54% reduction in annual token issuance and the official launch of Polkadot’s native stablecoin, dotUSD.

These strategic upgrades, coupled with a shift in derivatives trading towards long positions, suggest a renewed investor confidence in the interoperable blockchain network. Analysts are now closely watching whether DOT can sustain this upward trajectory and potentially extend its rally towards the $1.75 mark in the near term. This confidence is part of a wider trend impacting the price outlook for other altcoins.

Polkadot (DOT) price and tokenomics overhaul targets DOT scarcity

A pivotal factor driving Polkadot’s recent price action is a comprehensive overhaul of its tokenomics, officially implemented on March 14, 2026, a date dubbed “Pi Day” by the community. The network dramatically cut annual DOT issuance by 53.6%, reducing it from roughly 120 million to about 55 million tokens per year.

This move is designed to reduce selling pressure by limiting the influx of new tokens into circulation.

Furthermore, Polkadot introduced a permanent hard cap of 2.1 billion DOT for its total token supply. This marked a significant departure from its previous uncapped inflationary model, which had projected the total supply to exceed 3.4 billion by 2040. The annual inflation rate immediately dropped from approximately 10% to roughly 3.11% as a direct result of these changes.

A Strategic Shift for Investor Appeal

These tokenomics adjustments were overwhelmingly approved by DOT token holders through OpenGov referendums 1710 and 1828, garnering 81% support. The decision reflects a strategic move to enhance DOT’s appeal, particularly to institutional investors accustomed to fixed-cap assets like Bitcoin. Such fundamental shifts in tokenomics are increasingly vital for the long-term health of major altcoin ecosystems.

The reduction schedule ensures that annual issuance will decrease by 13.14% of the remaining supply every two years, gradually converging towards the new 2.1 billion DOT cap. This calculated shift is expected to cultivate greater scarcity, potentially bolstering DOT’s value proposition over the long term.

The market reaction leading up to the March 14 implementation saw DOT rally approximately 40%, demonstrating investor anticipation and approval of the new economic model.

Native Stablecoin dotUSD Expands Ecosystem Capabilities

Adding to the bullish sentiment, Polkadot officially launched its protocol-native stablecoin, dotUSD, on the mainnet on October 8, 2026. This development aims to significantly expand activity across the Polkadot ecosystem by providing a stable medium of exchange. Stablecoins are crucial for facilitating payments, supporting Decentralized Finance (DeFi) applications, and enhancing overall liquidity within a blockchain network.

The dotUSD stablecoin is uniquely governed by DOT holders through Polkadot’s OpenGov system, distinguishing it from many leading stablecoins typically issued and controlled by centralized entities. Its launch was approved via OpenGov Referendum 1944, which passed with a substantial 98.4% support and approximately 4.3 million DOT backing the proposal.

Phased Rollout and Decentralization Goals

In its initial phase, users can mint dotUSD one-for-one against Tether’s USDT through a Peg Stability Module (PSM). While this offers immediate utility, future plans include introducing a DOT-backed borrowing system, which would further decentralize dotUSD and align it more closely with Polkadot’s core vision.

This evolution is expected to increase on-chain activity and fee generation for Polkadot, directly linking future stablecoin demand to DOT demand.

The timing of dotUSD’s launch also coincided with regulatory discussions, as the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) issued an opinion on the same day, October 8, 2026. ESMA stated that MiCA-authorized service providers should cease services related to non-MiCA-compliant stablecoins for EU clients within three months. This regulatory backdrop highlights the increasing importance of compliant and well-governed stablecoin solutions.

Trader Sentiment Leans Bullish

Beyond the fundamental network upgrades, market derivatives data indicates a strong bullish bias among traders for Polkadot. The network’s Open Interest (OI) has climbed 15% to $78 million, signaling that traders are actively opening new positions as the token gains ground. This increased participation underscores a growing confidence in DOT’s short-term prospects.

A deeper dive into Polkadot’s Long/Short data reveals that long accounts now comprise 73% of total leveraged positions. This overwhelming preference for long positions suggests that a majority of traders and investors are betting on continued price appreciation for the DOT token. Such widespread bullish sentiment often precedes or reinforces upward price movements in cryptocurrency markets.

Technical Indicators Support Continued Upside

From a technical analysis perspective, DOT has shown a robust rebound from critical support levels around $1.02, pushing its price to $1.27. The token is currently trading above all its key Exponential Moving Average (EMA) supports, a technical signal often interpreted as buyer dominance in the short term.

This positioning above EMAs strengthens the argument for potential further gains, providing a solid foundation for continued upward movement.

The rebound was also amplified by a large long liquidation event followed by short covering, which typically fuels upward momentum. Should DOT maintain its position above these reclaimed support levels, it would further reinforce the case for an extended rally, potentially pushing it toward the $1.75 target. Conversely, renewed selling pressure could re-expose the token to lower price tests.

Broader Market Conditions Fueling the Rally

Polkadot’s recent surge isn’t isolated; it’s also benefiting from a broader cryptocurrency market rebound. A macro relief rally has swept across the digital asset space, primarily triggered by a de-escalation of geopolitical tensions.

Specifically, reports indicating President Donald Trump ruled out near-term strikes on Iran helped stabilize the market, leading to a notable increase in the total crypto market capitalization from $2.69 trillion to approximately $2.76 trillion.

This market-wide buoyancy provides a favorable backdrop for altcoins like DOT, allowing fundamental improvements to translate more effectively into price gains. When major assets like Bitcoin stabilize, it often creates a ripple effect, encouraging capital to flow into other promising projects.

Investors looking for diversified portfolios often consider tokens like DOT during such broader market upturns. An assessment of Binance Coin’s market activity shows similar dynamics at play across the broader altcoin sector.

The Path to $1.75 and Beyond

With its improved tokenomics and expanded ecosystem capabilities through dotUSD, Polkadot appears well-positioned to capitalize on current market optimism. The immediate focus for many traders is whether DOT can successfully breach and hold the $1.75 resistance level. Achieving this would validate the current bullish sentiment and technical indicators.

Looking further ahead, price predictions vary, but many indicate a sustained upward trend for DOT. While short-term forecasts suggest a target of $1.16 by October 14, 2026, and $1.13 by November 6, 2026, broader outlooks are significantly more ambitious. By November 2026, Polkadot could trade between $0 and $1.75.

Long-term projections estimate average prices of $1.32 by 2027 and potentially reaching $3.14 by 2028 in best-case scenarios.

Some even project a maximum price of $7.66 by 2031 and an average price exceeding $16.67 by 2032, with a potential surge to $25.77 by 2035 in the event of major developmental changes. These optimistic forecasts underscore the potential impact of Polkadot’s foundational upgrades and its role in the evolving Web3 landscape.

The successful implementation of its Agile Coretime by early 2026, replacing traditional parachain slot auctions, also enhances its long-term scalability and attractiveness for developers, further strengthening its investment case within the altcoin sector.
