XRP, the digital asset designed for global payments, has seen a significant rally recently. It’s leaving many potential investors to grapple with a pressing XRP investment question: should they buy now, or is it wiser to wait for a price pullback?

As of September 27, 2026, XRP trades around $1.53 to $1.57, marking a considerable ascent from earlier levels. This upward momentum presents both opportunities and potential pitfalls for those looking to enter or expand their positions in the cryptocurrency market.

XRP’s recent price momentum and market snapshot

XRP has indeed shown robust performance over the past two months. The token surged approximately 42% over the last 60 days, climbing from around $1.08 in late July to its current range. Coinbase reports XRP at $1.57, an 18% increase from $1.29 just last week.

Despite these gains, XRP remains 17% below its starting price of $1.85 at the beginning of 2026. Data from various platforms confirms its price, with Revolut citing $1.519 and Kraken showing $1.54. Crypto.com also lists XRP at $1.54, though noting a slight 0.83% dip in the last 24 hours.

The cryptocurrency’s market capitalization hovers between $95.58 billion and $97.33 billion, depending on the source. Circulating supply is roughly 61.98 billion to 62.88 billion XRP, representing about 63% of its maximum supply. Daily trading volumes are substantial, ranging from $2.332 billion to $4.76 billion across major exchanges.

It’s also worth noting the historical context: XRP’s all-time high was $3.84 on January 3, 2018. However, LiteFinance indicates a more recent peak of $3.65703 on July 18, 2025, placing the current $1.55 price about 57.5% below this benchmark.

The case for buying XRP now

For those leaning towards immediate acquisition, several compelling factors suggest XRP could be ripe for buying. The token currently offers a relative discount, sitting 17% below its 2026 opening price of $1.85. This might appeal to latecomers seeking an entry point before further appreciation.

Technical indicators also paint a bullish picture for XRP. It maintains a constructive short-term structure, characterized by recent higher lows. The token has shown a strong rebound from the $1.25-$1.32 demand zone, demonstrating underlying strength.

Moreover, breaking the $1.60-$1.70 resistance zone could trigger a significant bullish movement. A decisive daily close above this level would clear the path for XRP to climb to higher valuations. Continued XRP Ledger upgrades are also expected to bolster its utility and value.

Surging institutional interest and partnerships

Institutional adoption and regulatory clarity are providing significant tailwinds for XRP. Inflows into XRP exchange-traded funds (ETFs) reached $117.44 million in September 2026 alone, signaling growing mainstream acceptance. Analysts are increasingly optimistic that ETF adoption and expanding institutional participation will drive the token higher.

Ripple, the company behind XRP, has also been busy forging key alliances. On September 1, 2026, Ripple announced a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing custody and tokenized asset solutions for institutions across Asia. This move underscores its commitment to expanding its enterprise footprint.

Earlier in August, Jeonbuk Bank in South Korea partnered with Ripple to improve cross-border payment efficiency. These collaborations highlight Ripple’s focus on real-world applications for XRP. Additionally, Ripple raised $275 million on August 19, 2026, to expand into US prime brokerage and multi-asset clearing.

They also invested in Zilo and Licuido to support tokenized capital markets and collateral solutions on August 3, 2026, further cementing its ecosystem growth.

Current market sentiment heavily favors buying, with 60.20% of traders holding a “Buy” position. This collective confidence could provide further momentum for the asset, attracting more investors to the XRP ecosystem.

Why waiting for a pullback might be prudent

Despite the bullish sentiment, there are substantial arguments for exercising caution and waiting for a potential price correction. XRP is currently approaching a major overhead supply region between $1.60 and $1.70. This zone has historically capped upside momentum, suggesting strong selling pressure.

Attempts to breach $1.60-$1.65 have met with repeated rejections, indicating that active sellers are present at these levels. Furthermore, XRP’s rally has stalled just beneath its 50-week moving average of $1.56. Holders from the past year, who might be approximately 12% underwater, could view this as an opportunity to sell and reduce their losses.

A pullback to around $1.39 is a plausible scenario, representing a 9% dip from the current $1.53. Such a retracement would align with its 9.9% monthly gain, potentially offering a more attractive entry point for cautious investors.

Impending escrow release and competition

A significant event on the horizon is the escrow release from Ripple’s holdings, scheduled for October 1, 2026. This release window could unlock up to 1 billion XRP, valued at approximately $1.55 billion at current prices. Such a substantial influx of supply onto the market could exert downward pressure on XRP’s price.

Some technical analysis from late 2025 also highlighted a “death cross formation,” which predicted declines towards $1.25 before a potential reversal in Q2 2026. While the market has largely moved past this, it serves as a reminder of potential technical headwinds. The blockchain-based settlement market also faces stiff competition from stablecoins, central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), Ethereum-based networks, and even upgraded traditional systems like SWIFT.

Ultimately, XRP remains a cryptocurrency, inherently subject to sharp price swings and volatile investor sentiment. This unpredictability means that even positive news can be quickly overshadowed by broader market corrections or unforeseen developments, making a patient approach advisable for some.

Analyst price predictions for XRP in 2026

The outlook for XRP’s price by the end of 2026 varies widely among analysts, reflecting the speculative nature of the crypto market. A general consensus suggests a range of $2.50 to $8.00, with an average target hovering around $3.90. This indicates considerable upside potential from current levels.

Standard Chartered, for instance, has a bullish target of $8 for XRP. More conservative models, however, project prices between $2.50 and $3.00. Should ETF inflows, Ripple payment volume, and altcoin momentum strengthen, a stronger base-to-bullish case places XRP between $4.00 and $5.00.

Aggressive forecasts continue to eye the $8.00 mark, contingent on a cleaner breakout above resistance, stronger macro liquidity, and visible institutional accumulation. Some analysts hold even more ambitious outlooks, with finance expert Jake Claver envisioning XRP soaring to over $1000 by mid-2026, driven by its adoption in payments and settlements. This aligns with broader speculation regarding XRP market cap growth.

Claude AI offers a bull-case target between $5.50 and $8.50, with an ideal target of $6.50-$7.50, assuming a strong crypto bull market persists through late 2026. In highly optimistic conditions, Claude AI predicts XRP could even hit $10.

Analyst Diana (on X) notes that XRP’s uptrend might extend to $1.70. She suggests that a break above $1.61 resistance could indeed facilitate a move towards this higher target. Another commentator, CryptoBull, previously predicted XRP could reach $27 by the end of October, with $7 as an intermediate target, while Pumpius outlined a conditional route to $100 before the end of 2026.

However, not all predictions are uniformly optimistic. Binance suggests XRP could trade between $0.6318632 and $2 by November 2026, averaging $1.31. LiteFinance anticipates a range of $1.08538 to $2.12210 by year-end, with an average of $1.53701. Changelly projects a decline, from an average of $1.71 in September to $1.19 by December 2026, highlighting the diverging views on the asset’s near-term trajectory.

Navigating the XRP investment decision

The decision of whether to buy XRP now or wait for a pullback is complex, influenced by a blend of technical indicators, market sentiment, and broader ecosystem developments. While strong institutional interest, new partnerships, and bullish technical structures present a compelling case for immediate investment, significant resistance levels and impending supply increases warrant caution.

XRP’s inherent volatility means rapid price swings are always a possibility. Investors must weigh the potential for breakout gains against the risk of retracements, especially with the October 1 escrow release looming. This release could temporarily depress prices by adding substantial supply to the market, as some analysts also warn about the potential for downward pressure or a significant pullback, underscoring XRP market risks.

Ultimately, the optimal strategy depends on individual risk tolerance and investment horizons. Those with a long-term perspective might view current prices as a discounted entry into a growing ecosystem. Conversely, short-term traders might prefer to wait for clearer technical signals or a deeper pullback to minimize risk, making the XRP investment a personal choice.
