Cryptocurrency heavyweights Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) could soon see intensified selling pressure, warns prominent trader and analyst Zion Thomas, better known as Ansem.

His bearish outlook, shared on October 26, 2026, extends beyond digital assets to include major technology stocks, fueled by concerns over weakening technical trends, an overheated artificial intelligence (AI) sector, and broader macroeconomic uncertainties. Ansem specifically highlighted critical price levels, suggesting downward momentum could accelerate if Bitcoin dips below $82,000 and Ethereum falls under $2,400.

Trader Ansem warns Bitcoin’s bearish stance

Ansem’s assessment comes as investors scrutinize the sustainability of the recent AI-driven rally in equity markets. The interlinked nature of traditional finance and the crypto sector means that any significant downturn in risk assets, such as tech stocks, often reverberates through digital currencies. This current period of market re-evaluation suggests a potentially volatile end to the year for crypto holders.

Ansem, a widely followed figure in the crypto trading community and Head of Research at TCG Crypto, outlined his rationale on October 26, noting a deterioration in market momentum for both Bitcoin and Ethereum. He pointed to both assets breaking crucial medium-term trend lines, which historically signals potential for deeper corrections. For traders, these technical breakdowns often serve as a significant red flag.

His stark warning identified $82,000 for Bitcoin and $2,400 for Ethereum as pivotal thresholds. Should prices breach these levels, Ansem believes the sell-off could accelerate significantly, leading to further losses.

These figures act as psychological and technical support points, and a move beneath them could trigger cascading effects from automated trading systems and wary investors alike. Such developments are critical for understanding Bitcoin market forecasting.

Ansem also anticipates substantial volatility throughout the fourth quarter of 2026. This period, often marked by increased trading activity and year-end portfolio adjustments, could see sharp price movements in either direction. His analysis underscores a growing sentiment that cryptocurrency prices remain highly susceptible to the broader financial market environment, rather than existing in isolation.

AI Stock Performance Fuels Crypto Concern

A significant driver behind Ansem’s bearish position is the recent performance of artificial intelligence-related stocks. He argues that many popular AI investments experienced an unsustainably rapid rally, exhibiting characteristics of a “parabolic blow-off top” — a sharp price surge followed by an abrupt loss of momentum. Such patterns typically precede significant price corrections as speculative fervor wanes.

Ansem specifically highlighted concerns about declining momentum among AI-focused companies and questioned the longevity of recent stock market breakouts. He cited the Invesco QQQ fund, which tracks the Nasdaq 100 tech index, as an example, noting its recent failed attempt to break above previous highs. This hesitation in bellwether tech indices often signals broader market weakness.

Further exacerbating his concerns are the enormous corporate investments currently pouring into AI infrastructure. Ansem questioned whether these massive expenditures will translate into sufficient revenue and profitability for companies. He pointed to Meta’s recent stock decline post-earnings report as a prime example, suggesting investors are growing wary of high spending without immediate, tangible profit growth.

When investors reduce exposure to speculative investments, digital assets often experience additional selling pressure.

Macroeconomic Headwinds and Federal Reserve Impact

The timing of Ansem’s warning is particularly noteworthy, coinciding with a critical period for global financial markets. The United States Federal Reserve is scheduled to announce its latest interest rate decision on October 28, 2026.

This decision, along with accompanying commentary from the central bank, will be meticulously scrutinized by investors for clues about future borrowing costs and overall financial conditions. Changes in monetary policy can significantly influence investor appetite for risk assets, including cryptocurrencies.

Beyond central bank actions, a flurry of major corporate earnings announcements is also expected to shape market sentiment. Should technology companies report weaker-than-expected growth figures or reveal unexpectedly high AI-related expenses, it could trigger a negative reaction across equity markets.

This combination of potential monetary policy tightening and disappointing corporate performance could lead to heightened volatility in both traditional equities and the cryptocurrency sector, influencing how macroeconomic indicators influence Bitcoin’s price. These broader market dynamics are increasingly important for investors tracking Bitcoin market developments.

Weakened Crypto Sentiment

Ansem also expressed significant concern over the prevailing sentiment within the broader cryptocurrency community. He described current optimism surrounding on-chain assets as “increasingly unpopular,” noting that he hasn’t seen sentiment this weak in approximately nine years. This level of pessimism, if widespread, can exacerbate price declines as fewer buyers step in to support the market.

The trader further criticized the industry’s perceived focus on short-term token prices rather than the development of applications that attract sustainable demand. This perspective highlights a fundamental challenge for many cryptocurrency projects: balancing speculative interest with the creation of meaningful utility.

For long-term growth, developers may need to shift their focus towards building robust products, infrastructure, and fostering user adoption, moving beyond reliance on purely speculative trading activity. This sentiment reflects deeper issues that affect the entire digital asset space, extending beyond just Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Longer-Term Optimism Amidst Short-Term Correction

Despite his immediate bearish outlook, Ansem has not abandoned his long-term conviction in the cryptocurrency markets. He maintains that a significant correction could ultimately serve as a necessary cleansing, preceding a renewed upward trajectory for Bitcoin and Ethereum. This view suggests that current market pressures might be a temporary recalibration rather than a permanent structural decline in crypto fundamentals.

Ansem also speculated that certain selected on-chain assets could potentially outperform the broader market, even during a challenging environment. This nuanced perspective indicates that while the tide may be going out for many cryptocurrencies, some projects with strong fundamentals or unique value propositions could still find strength. Investors often seek such resilience during downturns, looking for assets that defy general market trends.

Other prominent analysts echo varying sentiments. Fellow analyst Benjamin Cowen has also suggested a cautious roadmap for Bitcoin through Q4, indicating that the market may need to navigate significant hurdles. John Gillen of Milk Road offered a wide range of possibilities, suggesting Bitcoin could either climb to $100,000 or retreat to $60,000 by year-end.

He noted that a dip to the 50-week moving average, between $76,000 and $78,000, would be a normal retest, but a convincing break below $75,500 would signal bears taking control, potentially leading to the lower target.

Meanwhile, Glassnode data shows the share of Bitcoin short-term holder supply in profit has fallen to about 70% from nearly 100% in late September, which they consider a more attractive buying opportunity. Such shifts in market dynamics are especially relevant in discussions around Ethereum outflows and price risks.

Rand Group described the current market decline as a crucial test of traders’ conviction. Ultimately, whether Bitcoin and Ethereum can recover from these converging pressures will hinge on how markets react to upcoming economic announcements, corporate earnings reports, and their ability to successfully reclaim vital technical support levels.

The interplay of AI stock performance, macroeconomic policy, and internal crypto market sentiment will define the path forward for these digital assets.
