USDC transaction volume reached a staggering $13.9 trillion in Q3 2026, representing 79% of the stablecoin market. 9 trillion in on-chain transaction volume in the third quarter of 2026, capturing 79% of the total stablecoin market’s activity.

The figures, released on November 4, 2026, underscore a massive surge in the coin’s use for payments and trading, even as its total supply remains a fraction of the market.

According to Circle Co-Founder and CEO Jeremy Allaire, the data reveals a critical distinction in the digital asset space: utility and velocity are becoming more important than sheer market capitalization. While USDC accounts for only about 27% of the total stablecoin supply, its transaction volume grew 49% year-over-year, cementing its role as the preferred settlement asset for active users.

USDC transaction volume velocity metrics highlight deep market integration

The most telling aspect of Circle’s Q3 report is the story it tells about how its stablecoin is used. The concept of “flow, not stock, drives network effects,” as Allaire noted, is clearly visible in the data. While USDC’s circulating supply was relatively flat year-over-year at around $74 billion, the volume of transactions processed tells a different story entirely.

Each dollar of USDC moved approximately 190 times during the quarter. This velocity is reportedly about ten times higher than that of the next largest stablecoin, indicating that users aren’t just holding USDC as a store of value. Instead, they are actively using it for payments, decentralized finance (DeFi) applications, and trading.

This high rate of use points to strong product-market fit for actual financial activities. The volume disconnect between asset supply and transactional use is a growing theme in the industry.

Further supporting this trend is the record $208 billion in USDC that was minted and redeemed during the quarter, a 42% increase from the same period last year. This averages out to roughly $2.3 billion in daily issuance and redemption activity.

It suggests that individuals and institutions are frequently moving in and out of USDC to facilitate transactions, treating it as a dynamic financial rail rather than a static asset.

Revenue and platform growth underpin dominance

This surge in activity translated into strong financial results for Circle. The company reported total revenue and reserve income of $865 million for Q3, a 17% increase year-over-year. Adjusted EBITDA reached $317 million, up 85% from the prior year, showcasing significant operating leverage.

While a large portion of revenue came from reserves, Circle also recognized $207 million in other revenue, including $182 million from its ARC token presale.

This financial strength is built on the expansion of Circle’s underlying infrastructure, which is designed to fuel USDC adoption across different sectors. Two key components of this strategy are the Circle Payments Network (CPN) and the new Arc mainnet, both of which saw impressive growth.

Circle Payments Network sees explosive growth

The Circle Payments Network (CPN) has become a major engine for the company. It ended the third quarter with an annualized payment volume of $41.3 billion, a figure that is more than 15 times higher than the same period last year. By the end of October, that annualized rate had already climbed past $58 billion.

The network has successfully enrolled 205 financial institutions, demonstrating its appeal for enterprise-grade payment solutions.

Arc mainnet attracts major institutions

Circle also launched its Arc mainnet on September 16, 2026, an institutional platform designed for building regulated digital asset applications. The launch included 11 founding validators, a list that features traditional finance giants like BNY, HSBC, and State Street. Their participation signals a growing confidence among established financial players in Circle’s infrastructure.

In just the first six weeks since its launch, Arc processed over 50 million transactions and accumulated $1.5 billion in assets on the platform. With over 100 applications already building on it, Arc is positioned to be a key venue for the growth of tokenized markets and financial products, creating even more demand for USDC as the core settlement asset.

Strategic moves expand the ecosystem

Circle has also been aggressive in forming partnerships and making acquisitions to solidify its market position. The company recently announced a five-year agreement with Binance, which included a $100 million equity investment from the major crypto exchange. This partnership secures a significant channel for USDC volume and aligns the interests of two of the largest players in the digital asset economy.

The relationship with Binance is multifaceted. Earlier in the year, Circle demonstrated its compliance capabilities by freezing over $800 million in USDC connected to a reported Binance exploit, coordinating with law enforcement. This ability to act on security threats is a key differentiator as institutions demand more robust controls.

Expanding its reach into global payments, Circle also agreed to acquire Tazapay for $400 million in stock, a deal expected to close in 2027. Tazapay processes over $25 billion in annual payment volume, with about 60% of that activity already involving stablecoins. This acquisition will directly integrate a massive new stream of payment flows into Circle’s ecosystem.

Preparing for a regulated future

Despite the impressive growth, Circle is also navigating a challenging market. The company’s net reserve margin declined to 37.8%, partly due to arrangements with partners like Hyperliquid and Binance designed to drive volume. The company also conducted a small round of layoffs, cutting about 5% of its staff in Q3 to streamline operations.

Looking ahead, Circle is positioning itself for a new era of crypto regulation. Allaire expressed confidence that the company is prepared for the GENIUS Act, which is expected to provide a comprehensive framework for “regulated digital dollars” when it takes effect in January 2027. He stated that “Circle is made for this moment,” emphasizing the company’s focus on compliance and institutional-grade infrastructure.

The Q3 results are a clear signal of Circle’s strategy: focus on building real-world utility and payment networks that drive transaction volume. By investing in partnerships, infrastructure, and compliance, Circle is making a strong case that the future of stablecoins will be won not by who has the largest supply, but by who can facilitate the most economic activity.
